OUR MOST RECENT PROJECTS
Our most recent project involved a complete roof reconstruction for a terraced house in Widnes following a fire. We removed all damaged trusses and installed new, treated trusswork. The roof was rebuilt to meet current building regulations, including a breathable roofing membrane, treated battens, and new roof tiles. We also replaced the roofline, fascia's and soffits, with ventilated soffit boards to improve ventilation and long‑term performance.
POST STORM
The project was completed in Pontefract and involved repairing the roof structure following the removal of a tree that had fell into the property during a storm. We assessed and stabilised the damaged areas, then repaired and reinforced the roof framework to restore structural integrity and comply with current building standards. Once the structural work was completed, we installed a modern breathable membrane and treated battens, then reinstated the original Rosemary clay tiles, supplemented with reclaimed tiles where necessary to preserve the roof’s original appearance.
VALE HOUSE SOUTHPORT

Overview
Vale House is a charming and historic B&B in the heart of Southport, standing proudly for around 150 years. Remarkably, its original tonne Welsh slate roof had never been replaced in all that time. While the slate had aged impressively, the roof had reached a point where repairs were no longer enough. The owners needed a full reroof that preserved the building’s heritage while ensuring modern performance and protection.
The Challenge
Working on a roof of this age brings unique considerations:
- Preserving the original character of the property
- Handling and reusing century‑old Welsh slate
- Sourcing reclaimed slates that matched the originals
- Upgrading the roof structure to modern standards without altering the building’s appearance
This project required a careful balance of craftsmanship, sensitivity to heritage, and technical expertise.
Our Approach
We carried out a full reroof with a focus on authenticity and longevity:
- Careful Removal: We stripped the original Welsh slates one by one, preserving as many as possible.
- Selective Reuse: The majority of the original slates were reused, maintaining the building’s historic look.
- Reclaimed Slate Matching: Any broken or unusable slates were replaced with reclaimed Welsh slates to ensure a seamless match.
- Modern Protection: A breathable membrane and treated battens were installed to bring the roof up to current standards while remaining discreet beneath the slate.
- Traditional Finish: The final result retained the classic appearance that defines Vale House, now supported by a modern, long‑lasting roofing system.
The Result
The restored roof looks almost identical to the original — just as the owners wanted — but now offers the durability and weather protection expected from a modern installation. Vale House can continue welcoming guests with its historic charm intact, and with a roof ready for many more decades of service.

FIRE DAMAGE
This project followed a serious fire in Lincoln, leaving the roof structure badly damaged. The restoration took two weeks and required a huge amount of care and hard work. One of the main challenges was reinstating the original purlin‑style roof on a like‑for‑like basis while also bringing the structure up to modern building regulations.
Project Overview
- Full strip‑out: We began by removing the entire burnt‑out roof structure to expose a safe working area.
- Structural replacement: All original purlins and rafters were replaced with new timber, matching the traditional layout while improving overall strength.
- Modern weatherproofing: The new structure was overlaid with a breathable membrane and treated battens to ensure long‑term durability.
- Finishing details:
- Installed brand‑new timber fascia's and soffits
- Fitted new guttering
- Completed the roof with brown Ludlow Minor tiles
- Added a bedded ridge and mortared verge to recreate the original aesthetic
What We Did

Bishops Court
Flat Roof Refurbishment with Insulated Overboarding & New Skylights
We upgraded this ageing flat roof by over boarding the existing structure with insulated roofing boards, creating a solid and energy‑efficient base for a new three‑layer felt system. This approach avoided unnecessary disruption while delivering a modern, long‑lasting finish.
As part of the project, we also removed the outdated skylight and installed a brand‑new unit, improving both natural light and thermal performance.
The result is a cleaner, warmer, and more durable flat roof built to modern standards.
